BKN is instructed by the government to keep track on housing finance matters and to contribute to increased knowledge within the field. BKN is also to exchange knowledge and experiences with actors in other countries.
Against the background of the interactions between the housing, housing finance and construction markets, BKN analyzes topics of concern to housing policy. During the last couple of years, BKN has e.g. highlighted the dramatic increase in Swedish housing prices and household indebtedness, elements of potential interest for Sweden in other housing finance markets, potential for increased flexibility and efficiency in Swedish markets and the interrelationship between the labor and housing markets.
Furthermore, BKN is to take initiatives to have a balanced support of state guarantees.
